Title of Presentation

The Digital Transformation

Industry 4.0 or smart factory has moved from the PR hype to real investment and implementation.  Many companies across the various market segments are at different phases of implementation but companies in Germany and Japan are furthest along. Companies in Asia are making progress with China’s companies being highly flexible and readily embracing the transformation. There are many challenges in the transformation but the lack of skills and acceptance are the major barriers. We need the leaders (CEO, CTO or CIO) in an organization to lead this transformation, creating a robust digital environment and enhancing the digital knowledge and skill of the people.

Data analytics is the heart of Industry 4.0, and will become a tool for decision making.  Data will be coming from multiple sources with the increasing horizontal and vertical integration in the entire value chain. It is important to work together and share the responsibility for data security with all in the value chain. There need to be trust among the ecosystem partners to ensure the success of the transformation.

For semiconductor equipment manufacturers such as Kulicke & Soffa, there is need to adapt and make changes to their products and services for the adoption of Industry 4.0 to stay relevant to their customers and the market. The next generation of semiconductor manufacturing equipment will be a smart equipment and one of the many things connected to the cyberspace. The transformation will pave way for disruptive collaborative business model which will enhance customer experiences and satisfaction. Industry 4.0 adoption will continue to accelerate, and more individualized products and services are expected to be created. Significant investment is anticipated, and the long term benefits of cost reduction and increased revenue will continue to drive the transformation.
