5G or 5th Generation is the latest generation of cellular mobile communication that have peak data transfer up to 10-20 Gbps which is 100 times faster than the previous cellular technology 4G LTE. 5G performance targets high data rate, reduced latency, energy saving, cost reduction, higher system capacity, and massive device connectivity. Furthermore, 5G will play a big role in the IoT (Internet of Things) development since it connects many more devices.

5G networks achieve these higher data rates by using new technologies such as millimeter wave bands and massive MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output). Millimeter wave bands, which occupy frequencies between approximately 30 – 300 GHz offer speeds as high as 20 Gbit/s. The massive MIMO technology reaches speeds of 490 Mbit/s at a bandwidth of 3.5 – 4.2 GHz.

Testing of 5G device is getting more challenges as the required higher frequency radio wave is near the millimeter wave around 28 and 39 GHz, while the current test equipment for 4G device only supports in microwave band between 700MHz and 3 GHz. In short, new test equipment needs to be introduced and deployed for coming 5G Revolution. To fulfil 5G device testing requirement, the V93000 WaveScale Millimeter is capable to perform radio frequency testing up to 67 GHz.
