SEMI SEA concluded our inaugural Semiconductor Talent Meet-Up (STEM) at GRUB @ Bishan Park in the evening of 31 October. Present at the event were 32 engineers and 4 HRs representatives.  It was truly enjoyable to see the vibrancy of young engineers - their energy and enthusiasm was encouraging to witness!

At GRUB, they heard SEMI SEA shared a market outlook and were introduced to SEMI Foundation Mentorship program. In addition, the Principal Manager of Workforce Singapore (WSG), Mr. Kwan Wei, covered schemes for talent development supported by the government. All of which were planned to support their journey in our industry.

We want to extend our appreciation to our Workforce Development Council – Singapore Chapter for their support to STEM. Also, not forgetting you whom attended the event! Thank you for making it a successful one. Cheers!

The Workforce Development Council comprise of the following companies:

  1. Advantest, Singapore
  2. Applied Materials SEA

I’m glad that STEM provides such a great networking opportunity for semiconductor professionals in the region – I see the value in genuine industry peers interaction and experience sharing. It certainly brings quality and stronger influences over distance connections on the social media tools we have today e.g. LinkedIn or facebook” - Ms. Joyce Koh, Global Customer Solutions Group

What is STEM?

Talent shapes our industry. Innovations in any industry is fueled by the creativity and ideas of people More importantly the sustenance of an industry hinges on influx of new participants as well as keeping existing talent capital in the industry. Sadly, we are not doing very well in both of those areas. Nowhere is more true than for the semiconductor industry today. Decline in engineering course enrolment and engineering talent shortage is detrimental for our semiconductor industry that is characterized by sheer human ingenuity.

In the industry that SEMI has been known to be a strong advocate for talent development, there is never a time more critical than now for more to be done. SEMI is answering the call to action from our members by putting workforce development a top priority focus and is rolling out industry wide programs.

SEMICONDUCTOR TALENT MEET-UP is happening on 31st October 2018! It is a platform for you, the young engineering talent to interact, share common matter of interest, expand networks as well as to gain insights into the trends of the industry from industry experts.

We will also be launching SEMI Foundation widely recognized SEMI Professional Development Mentoring program at the event.

Calling all electronics industry engineers elites, come join us on 31st October at 18:30hrs!

See you there!
