Semiconductor Industry Outlook

Abstract

Infineon will highlight the potential career prospects within the semiconductor industry and its role in shaping future mega trends of Decarbonization and Digitalization. Semiconductors play a crucial role in solving the energy challenges of our era and shaping digital transformation. These trends drive the semiconductor industry towards remarkable growth in the coming years. By 2030, the industry is projected to reach a value of 1 trillion US dollars, with each chip accommodating an impressive 1 trillion transistors. An illustrative instance of Decarbonization is the shift from internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles to electric vehicles (EVs), which is expected to increase the semiconductor content in EVs by approximately 2.7 times, affecting both convenience and powertrain systems.

On top, there is considerable hype surrounding generative artificial intelligence (AI) exponential growth. The demand for these technologies will continue to explode in the coming years. Digitalization drives unstructured data towards AI, with semiconductors at the core of this technological advancement. From advanced microprocessors to intelligent power systems driving AI servers: Semiconductors are the heart of Gen-AIs' complex computation.
