Job Position Summary:
Develop the skills and capabilities of technical team members to meet the needs of the business.
Functional Contribution (Contribution Matrix):
• Actions impact cross-functional teams, department, plants, and divisions
• Interacts with all customer groups and suppliers
• Leads multiple/large project teams, program areas or functional groups under general direction of
department and organization leadership
• Helps set business priorities for work queues and guides associated trade-off decisions
• Ability to work on and solve very complex problems, operating and resource issues, and constraints
with limited guidance from next-level managers
• Makes decisions on personnel actions (hiring, terminations, promotions, etc.)
• Understands and applies compensation and other HR systems
• Advises subordinates on administrative policies and procedures and on technical problems, priorities, and procedures
• Resolves interdisciplinary technical conflict
• Teaches appropriate methods for capturing knowledge in ways that facilitate re-use
• Leads major project implementations or introduction of new technologies.
• Identifies dependencies of multiple projects and coordinates resources across projects
• Determines scope, budget, and implementation timeframes of projects with significant budgets,
resource requirements, and long-term focus.
• Controls expenses of projects or technical area and responsible for meeting budget goals and objectives
• Responsible for feasibility studies, time and cost estimates for improved or new operational processes or business opportunities
• Leads projects to achieve financial results (value stream profitability)
• Has thorough knowledge of and dependencies of multiple technical areas or disciplines
• Review and approve knowledge briefs and trade-off curves and assures presentation of knowledge is appropriate for facilitating re-use
• Teaches the use of systematic/ creative problem solving tools
• Has in-depth level of understanding of multiple businesses or functions being supported and assures this knowledge is captured for the use of others
• Provides input to strategic planning for assigned area
• Communicates strategy, business goals, and results to team members in assigned area

Technical Leadership:
• Lead the development and use of functional engineering resources in the execution of product and
process design and development activities
• Provide leadership and coordination across an organizational group of engineering teams or area of significant technical complexity with financial impact at the product line level
• Maintain working knowledge of the specialized skill sets required in assigned functional area(s)
• Maintain functional knowledge of the application and use of tools and equipment for electrical and
mechanical fabrication and assembly
• Provide direct supervision of responsibilities and activities of employees in the Technician/Design I
through Staff Engineer roles
• Prepare project justifications based on cost/benefit analysis
Administrative Leadership:
• Proactively participate in opportunity management and prioritization planning
• Lead the organization in identifying the resources and expertise needed for his/her area of responsibility
• Lead the organization in the development and application of defined process-based tools and methods
• Develop and maintain knowledge of business practices and company financial systems
• Communicate Watlow business objectives and financial performance to assigned area(s)
• Review activities and provide guidance during safety investigations, and approve corrective action where necessary
Coaching / Mentoring:
• Actively develop less experienced managers through coaching and feedback
• Provide counsel to less experienced managers on employee issues or administrative procedures
Workforce Development:
• Monitor employee progress on career development plans
• Define requirements for training tools and programs for engineering staff
• Monitor turnover and morale of employees in assigned area(s), determine root causes of key issues and recommend actions to address key issues
Education, Experience and Certification Requirements:
• Advanced degree (MS/MBA) or Bachelor’s degree and 7-10 years of experience.
• Project management experience
• Supervisory training and experience
• Experience in one or more engineering disciplines
