Dr. Fang CHENG
R&D Director, Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Centre (ARTC), A*STAR
Cheng Fang obtained his PhD degree from Hefei University of Technology, China, in 2010 where he performed research on nano measurements. Thereafter, he completed his postdoctoral research at National Taiwan University, Taiwan, and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, where he gained insights into nano-positioning and surface metrology. Cheng joined the Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Centre (ARTC), A*STAR, in 2013 as a Development Scientist and is now an R&D Director at ARTC. His research interests are in intelligent surface-defect detection, surface-finish inspection, automated optical inspection and in-line instrumentation.
Presentation Title
Scaling AI for Manufacturing
Abstract
This presentation highlights AIMfg, a national platform funded by Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI), established to support the wider use of AI in manufacturing. Developed under the National AI Strategy 2.0 and led by A*STAR, AIMfg aims to help companies explore how AI can be practically applied to improve operations, quality, and maintenance. The session will discuss the key challenges manufacturers face—such as fragmented data, resource constraints, and limited technical readiness—and share how AIMfg is addressing these through a combination of common AI models, a modular tech stack, and collaborative experimentation. Recent research work under AIMfg will also be shared, especially in the area of intelligent inspection. Typical challenges and potential solutions will be discussed.
