Mr. Shankaran JANARDHANAN
Vice President, Mobile Radio & WiFi Business, GlobalFoundries, United States
Shankaran Janardhanan is the Vice President of the Mobile Radio & Wi-Fi business at GlobalFoundries® (GF®). In this role, Janardhanan has responsibility for P&L & general management for GF's mobile radio and Wi-Fi business with a focus on growing a portfolio of business lines including front-end modules, Wi-Fi, transceivers and gesture sensing
Prior to this role, Janardhanan was responsible for all the RF offerings (RF SOI, SiGe, FDX™ RF and RF CMOS) at GF. Janardhanan helped support the M&A activity that culminated in the acquisition of the IBM Microelectronics Specialty Foundry business in 2015 to help broaden GF’s differentiated RF portfolio and manufacturing footprint. In his previous role at GF, he managed RF & power-management business development and field applications.
Prior to GF, he had various roles in design engineering, technology and product management for RF and MEMS products at TowerJazz, where he also managed the design support function.
Janardhanan holds an MBA from the University of California–Berkeley and an MS in electrical engineering from Temple University. He has co-authored several papers, written a number of trade journal articles and blogs, and speaks regularly about RF trends and developments at conferences and consortiums across the world.
Presentation Title:
Silicon Technologies, Design Considerations and Innovations for the Next Wave of RF-Connectivity
Everything is now connected. From Smart Cities to Smart Homes, all these connected things depend on wireless connectivity, with 5G, NB-IoT and BTLE advances now driving even more pervasive deployment of this next wave of linked devices. There are conflicting constraints on silicon designs for these applications. The silicon must deliver the lowest power and the highest possible Quality of Service (RF connectivity), while empowering designers with the ability to minimize both cost and area. We will discuss the development challenges confronting chip designers for these applications, and the technology differentiators, such as RF-optimized silicon-on-insulator and Fully depleted silicon-on-insulator, that are helping solution providers unlock opportunities in this rapidly growing segment. We will also discuss how innovation in Semiconductor technologies help push the boundaries of humanity.
