CEO, Ettifos Co., United States
Dr. Yong Je Lim is the co-founder and CEO of Ettifos Co., a connected-mobility company specializing in providing V2X ecosystem platforms and solutions. Before founding Ettifos, he held technology leadership at Intel and Samsung and executive positions at fabless semiconductor companies including Posco-ICT, DB HiTek, and Core Logic where he led the team to design Wi-Fi, mobile WiMAX, and V2X chipsets and corresponding applications. He pioneered adapting software-defined modem into OFDM-based communication chip solutions. His latest effort is to introduce platform-independent software-based modems and the system architecture applicable on Open V-RAN architecture to revolutionize the 5G infrastructure deployment and the V2X communication architecture optimized for the automated driving environment.
Presentation Title:
Software-Based 5G NR V2X Modem Solutions and Applications
5G NR V2X is expected to be the next generation V2X technology to cover high-performance and low-latency mobile direct-to-direct communication, especially for the Vehicle-to-X information exchange. Vehicle-to-X communication requires the customization of L1 and L2 layers to support the variations of vehicle types and the infrastructures. The customization is quite problematic if the L1 and L2 layers are implemented in the dedicated SoC, a.k.a modem SoC, and, therefore any, changes or modifications that appeared later require another revision of the SoC. The software-based 5G NR V2X L1 and L2 solution that can be run on any general-purpose application processor without a dedicated modem SoC can ultimately resolve the problems. All modifications and engineering changes or even the different sets of L1 and L2 to cover other V2X communication standards can be accommodated with software updates without a new system design or installation. This presentation covers the software-based 5G NR V2X modem platform design methodology and the demonstration of the platform with real-time use cases.
