Mr. Raja MANICKAM
CEO Tata Electronics OSAT, India
Raja Manickam is CEO for TATA OSAT, leading the effort to bring semiconductor manufacturing to India which he was aspiring to do for many years. Prior to TATA, Raja Manickam founded Tessolve in 2004 with a vision to create a leading productization company delivering high volume manufactured products from physical silicon. He brings a unique mix of experience encompassing the entire chip development process, from managing product lines, running a manufacturing site and building up start-ups. He worked in various geographies in Asia, US and finally in India with Tessolve.
This experience allowed him to build Tessolve to bridge the gaps he saw in the development cycle of silicon engineering.
Starting his career as a test engineer in Texas Instruments he moved on to Fairchild, National Semiconductor, DTS and Viko test labs. He was also involved in the early startup of STATS and UTAC. In his vibrant 40-year career, he held engineering, product line, sales and marketing. He is ECE alumni of IIT Kharagpur.
Presentation Title:
Power of Geography: India in Semiconductor Manufacturing
It took more than 60 years for semiconductor market to grow to $540B in 2021. The market is projected to double to more than Trillion dollars in 10 years. Why the significant growth? Is it real? Pandemic has accelerated digitization globally. With digitization it has opened up tremendous opportunities. There is a worldwide consensus to move towards sustainable living. There will be significant changes in how we use resources, how we build products, how we move products, how we use power, water, air. All of this enabled by technology. Semiconductor is at the heart of technology. Whether we believe it or not, no one can argue that semiconductor will grow significantly.
To double the semiconductor market in a short span of 10 years, where would resources in research, development, engineering, manufacturing come from? Mobilizing significant talent. Making it affordable. Imagine what would semiconductor supply chain look like in 10 years from now.
I believe, India would have a significant role to play … Semiconductor market needs India to play a major role.
